Noosa Festival of Surfing announces new division - Laguna Bay Longboards Logger Division
LOGGER PRO JOINS SPECIALTY DIVISIONS FOR NOOSA
Laguna Bay Longboards will present Noosa’s first ever “logger pro” as a new addition to the specialty division. The logger concept, popularized by Joel Tudor’s Van’s Duct Tape series in the US and Europe over the past two years, puts the judging emphasis firmly back on the traditional aspects of longboarding.
Laguna Bay’s Tully St John said there was a growing movement towards logging in Australia. “With so many surfers riding all kinds of boards in all kinds of conditions these days, traditional longboarding has really come to the fore,” he said. “We want to showcase the incredibly high standard of logging in this country by inviting the top loggers to surf against the best of the rest who make it through elimination trials.”
Unlike the Old Mal amateur division, competitors in the Logger Pro can ride new or old boards, but they must be at least 5.5kg in weight, single fin and ridden without a leg-rope. Judging would be based on style and execution of traditional manoeuvres.

Rémi Darkis wins silver medal at the Pacific Games on Laguna Bay

The Pacific Games was held in New Caledonia from the 27th August until the 10th September where local rider Remi Darkis received the silver medal. Congratulations to Remi who has been riding Laguna Bay Longboards for a few years now and been updated with his progress from a young grom. His father Ronald has sent us some photos and looks like they had some nice waves to ride.
Its great to see that the International Surfing Association announced that surfing would be included again in the Pacific Games, and to be held in New Caledonia. I believe the surfing was held in Ouano perfect waves.
This event is great for all the keen surfers to compete in New Caledonia and hope it continues strong. The Pacific Games (formerly known as the South Pacific Games) is a multi-sport event, where athletes compete for medals and the honor of defending their nations. Participation is reserved exclusively for countries around the South Pacific. It is held every four years and began in 1963, hosted by Suva, Fiji. Over 4,300 athletes from 22 nations will take part in the event, competing in lots of different sports.

Woogie Wins At Festival Of Surfing

Woogie blows the field away winning the Le Monde Open Ocean Stand Up Paddle event in the Festival of Surfing. In rough, windy, testing conditions Woogie dominated the 22km paddle race from Coolum Beach to Main Beach, Noosa on Saturday. The 16ft Open Ocean 'Penetrator' seemed to have far superior hull design, coupled with Woogie's amazing paddle technique pushed him to the finish line well in front of second place.
We would like to give special thanks to Mark from Sun Coast Valuers for his support and Stu Campbell for his outstanding dedication and wealth of experience he brings to the already amazing Laguna Bay Team. Also Panga Productions for capturing some amazing footage of not only the race but also the birth of the 'Penetrator', which we will be bringing to you soon.
